8 March 2021 • 2 min read

Business Unity SA has issued the following statement:

BUSA, on behalf of its Board, members and staff, is shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic and untimely passing of Peter Matlare! Peter was a distinguished businessperson and business leader. He played senior roles in numerous businesses, including Prime media , Tiger Brands and ABSA . He also acceded to the then Minister of Communications request to take up the position of CEO at the SABC, at a time the organisation needed mature and experienced leadership.

Peter was professional in all his interactions and roles and brought experience, diligence and expertise to all his positions in business. He was also very passionate about the role of business in society and its role in working with government to promote an environment for investment and growth.

Peter was also very passionate about the African continent and would have played a pivotal role on the continent as Deputy CEO of ABSA, responsible for its African business. We will miss Peter’s geniality, his smile and his passion. He was a good human being. We have lost skills and expertise our country sorely needs, and his passing will leave a hole in business, society and our country.

We offer our sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult and sad period.

In conclusion, we again urge people to take this pandemic seriously and abide by all necessary and critical health protocols. We mourn all those that have passed on as a result of succumbing to COVID 19. May his soul Rest in Peace.
