ASI welcomes Fazlin Swanepoel as its new MD

By Fazlin Swanepoel, Managing Director: Employee Benefits at ASI Financial Services

ASI’s transformation strategy has been driven by its founder and CEO, Anthony Govender, and women comprise more than 70% of its staff complement, with Swanepoel joining the company to lead its Employee Benefits business. She brings a wealth of consulting, business development experience and success to ASI, and is also tasked with transforming its Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) operations, investing in its risk and compliance capabilities, leading digital transformation, and working closely with marketing and sales teams to achieve their new business targets – all guided by ASI’s vision of building wealth and changing lives.

“ASI is delighted to welcome Fazlin to its executive team, as we believe that she has the passion, drive, commitment, and indeed the compassion we expect for our clients’ employees to lead ASI in achieving its growth goals,” Govender says. “Her track record of building businesses while investing in their people is inspiring, and the business looks forward to seeing her unique approach to success in action.”

Swanepoel has overcome significant personal adversity to achieve leadership in a conventionally male dominated environment. Her first job after graduating from a self-funded BA in Psychology was as a receptionist at Discovery Health, where she developed a passion for improving other people’s lives by helping them achieve the greatest value possible from the financial services they were offered.

She grew her career by working for some of the country’s leading health and financial services brands, including Glenrand MIB, Grant Thornton Capital, Pinnacle Health Services, and most recently at NEXTEC, where she was Executive of Business Development and Operations for 13 years.

“Joining a business like ASI has been a dream of mine for many years, as its values of building wealth and changing lives resonate with the purpose I have always held close to my heart, through my career,” says Swanepoel. “I’m delighted to be a part of the ASI family, and look forward to working closely with all its people, and its clients and their employees, to help people in South Africa achieve financial independence.”

She lives in Fourways with her husband and three children, and relaxes with high intensity interval training, yoga, golf and hiking. She climbed to Mt Everest’s Base Camp in 2018 to raise funds for Innovation for the Blind, has summitted Mafadi in 2020 which is the highest peak in SA and remains committed to various community service and outreach projects.
