
In his Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) speech to Parliament, the Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni, largely dodged important Eskom decisions. The power utility, which supplies 95% of the country’s electricity, is viewed as the biggest risk to SA’s economy. The minister made is clear that only when he was convinced that Eskom was behaving responsibly would he consider the size of debt relief for the embattled state-owned entity.
